The foot defines the grounding of the project and makes immediate reference to its context. The foot contains foot traffic oriented programs: grocery; commercial / retail; hostel; and office. It is made accessible by the court which mediates the 'existing' with the 'new' at a new 'street level', which is then framed by the hip. The hip acts as the social connector of the entire building, it is the point at which pedestrian flow is achieved between the blocks as well as signaling the 'fold' onto the existing Grays Auction building. The hip contains communal programs such as a communal laundry; a restaurant; a pool; and a multi-purpose room.
